25/09/24

On Wednesday 11th September, Grace Taylor, President of Poole Branch marked her centenary birthday. The Branch held a special birthday party for Grace with family, friends, members of the RAA and WO1 (RSM) Gemma Begley in attendance.

Grace received many beautiful gifts and flowers and amongst many birthday messages; a card from His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen, and the Master Gunner St James’s Park.

Grace joined the ATS just before her 17th birthday and served from 1941-1945. After basic training she was posted to Arborfield, where she was instructed on aircraft recognition for her role with 495 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery. Grace was then posted to Anglesey for the next four years. The Ack Ack girls proved to be invaluable to the war effort and we thank Grace and the many women who defended Britain’s skies from air attack.

On behalf of the Royal Regiment of Artillery we wish you a very Happy Birthday Grace. You are true inspiration to us all and it was lovely to spend this day with you and your family celebrating.
